Starwood Opens 71 Hotels and Signs Most New Hotel Deals since Pre-Crisis

    (Stamford/Connecticut, USA – 27 December 2012)–Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide today announced that, despite ongoing macroeconomic and geo-political uncertainty, 2012 was a year of the most deal signings since before the global economic crisis. Before year-end, the company expects to have signed in excess of 125 new hotel management and franchise agreements, surpassing last year’s deal signings by approximately 13 percent.

      The total active U.S. hotel development pipeline comprises 2,598 projects totaling 289,145 rooms, according to the September 2012 STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report. This represents an 8.3-percent decrease in the number of rooms in the total active pipeline compared to September 2011. The total active pipeline data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Pre-Planning stage.

        The total active U.S. hotel development pipeline comprises 2,745 projects totaling 304,825 rooms, according to the August 2012 STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report. This represents a 3.5-percent decrease in the number of rooms in the total active pipeline compared to August 2011. The total active pipeline data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Pre-Planning stage.

        Starwood Hotels & Resorts to Double Portfolio in Russia And CIS With Seven New Hotels by 2015 – Starwood Announces Deal to Open Russia’s First Aloft Hotel

          Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced plans to expand its portfolio throughout Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Over the next three years, Starwood will more than double its portfolio in the region with seven new hotels, including the debut of the Aloft brand in Russia with the new Aloft St. Petersburg, a deal that was announced today. Emphasising the importance of the region as one of the world’s fastest-growing hotel and travel markets, CEO Frits van Paasschen and members of Starwood’s senior executive team visited Russia this week, travelling to key growth markets, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Rostov-on-Don.

This represents a 6.9-percent decrease in the number of rooms in the total active pipeline compared to July 2011. The total active pipeline data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Pre-Planning stage.

            HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts Forges Ahead with Eight Signings in First Five Months after Brand Launch

              IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), one of the world’s largest hotel companies and the biggest international hotel company in Greater China, today announced its first set of signings for the new HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts brand. Eight management contracts have been signed since the brand launch earlier this year, including hotels in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as six emerging business and leisure destinations across the country.
